Advancing the Status
of Women Worldwide
Zonta Club of Washington County, Pa.
Member of Zonta International
We started the year off with a fun-filled Membership Event/Purse Auction for prospective
new members and others in the community to hear about Zonta and the events our
Washington club has planned this year! We raised over $800 and several ladies expressed
interest in joining and/or participating in our events so we are looking forward to an
increased membership and are always happy to add to the list of Zonta friends!
In August we supported the Washington County Area Food Bank at their recent Great
American Food Drive event where we volunteered with the children's activities and with
re-boxing food.
More details to come on events that our Legislative Awareness and Advocacy Committee
has planned. In the meantime, please take this opportunity for your voice to be counted
as we advocate to stop violence against women by getting signatures for the UNIFEM 'Say
No - Unite' campaign.

In October, we partnered with the University of California Pennsylvania School of
Nursing to assemble over 500 Birthing Kits which will be distributed to women in Africa. One
Birthing Kit helps 3..it helps save the life of the mother, it helps save the life of the baby and
it allows the volunteers the opportunity to serve others, especially women in need.
Our annual Amelia Earhart Dinner will be held on February 8, 2012. At this event we
honor one outstanding junior girl from all 15 high schools in Washington County for their
community service. Each young woman receives a $200 savings bond and one is awarded
the Exemplary Service Award receiving a $1000 bond. We are glad to recognize the
accomplishments of young women in Washington County and hope these wonderful young
ladies will go on to become Zontians in the future.
In May we will hold our Rose Day Celebration, where we honor deserving women from
Washington County for their outstanding achievements. We also honor a non-traditional
Nursing student, who receives a $1000 scholarship. Please check back for more details and
the selected date.
Lastly, we recently acquired our foundation status so we are hoping this will allow us to
do even more for women in Washington County and around the world. If you're
interested in supporting us, please contact us via the Contact Us page on the left or via
mail at Zonta Club of Washington, PO Box 1035, Washington Pa. 15301.
Thank you all for your continued support!
